Fellowships for foreign trained graduates
#1
Hi , i'm a neurosurgery resident in India , my residency ends in August 2018 and i'm looking to subspecialise in cerebrovascular/ endo vascular and skull base .

The problem is that there doesnt seem to be too much information on how to go aboout getting a fellowship as a foreign trained resident . can some one help clear in the blanks . Most of the sites i have visited usually mention a licencing requirement . I am aware that i have to go through the entire USMLE process but beyond that im completely lost .  Any help would be greatly appreciated

Many fellowships end up not being filled up by US graduates and they tend to recruit foreign graduates to fill the position for a year. You will have to choose a subspecialty you like and reach out to Fellowship Directors to ask them about availability. Also, some fellowships are not ACGME-accredited, nor CAST-approved, in this case, it would not be attractive to US residents and residency graduates, but if it is an institution with a large volume and a good mentor, would still be suitable for your needs.
