Yes. Heavily involved in GBM work at a basic science lab that Boockvar leads.

Based at The Feinstein Institute at Northwell’s main campus in Long Island. Boockvar usually spends 1 day per week there (Wednesdays) and the fellow usually goes with him. Additional days can easily be worked out. It’s about a 40 min drive in the morning or accessible easily by train (station right outside of Lenox Hill Hospital).

Honestly fellows don’t find it that troublesome - the lab portion is very dependent on the fellow’s goals for the year. It’s a very customizable experience. For more info, feel free to email dlanger@northwell.edu or jboockvar@northwell.edu or PM me.

This sounds like an interesting fellowship. What are the goals of the training, its seems it the fellow will be exposed to a broad range of pathologies. Does he/she choose an are of focus or is it possible to be proficient in all techniques by the end of the training period?

Goals are to make the fellow comfortable with the core principles of neurosurgical oncology, skull base approaches, and / or cerebrovascular techniques. The fellow is free to split up the year and spend some time focusing on all of these aspects. The fellow may also chose one to be his/her primary focus. The current fellow is focusing on neurosurgical oncology for the entire year. As for achieving proficiency by the end of the training period, the training can easily facilitate it - however, it also depends on the fellow’s current training status (obviously enfolded fellows haven’t completed their neurosurgical training and therefore would not be expected to walk out of the fellowship year fully trained).
