Call is important, but I would be wary of small programs or programs covering many hospitals where you are doing q4 call or more for the first 4 years of residency. When the older generation says the work restrictions are killing surgical training, they’re really talking about the post-call day; if you’re not operating every 4th day, that is a lot of missed learning opportunities.
