Is there a purpose for a pre-residency fellowship? What is the yield of these programs for becoming a neurosurgeon? Where are these programs located?

I am sorry to let down any hopes. Obvious its for a program to get cheaper labor and an opportunity for an applicant to get experience and make connections. There are no guaruntees, but for many (IMG, firees/resignees, non-matchers) this is there last resort into neurosurgery. Not every speciality has these "pre-residency" fellowships, so consider this as a forutnate back door opportunity. Not everyone will make it in, but not everyone deserves to be in. It seems you are focused on possibly doing one, there is much to gain and probably little to lose. Good luck!
