Emory

Thinking about doing a sub-I at Emory, can anyone talk about the experience?

Plenty of opinions on this site
It's obviously super high volume, has everything from level 1 trauma to prove practice spine hospital
Resident-driven program
Probably highest volume functional in the country, probably for stroke and interventional volume it's up there too
Don't hear much about the spine program there these days
Oyesiku just left and did huge number of pituitaries, but referral base to Emory is huge so doubt there will be a huge dip in volume. Not sure who the new PD is but probably won't make a huge difference given program culture
Historically strong, will probably remain strong for foreseeable future given geographic dominance

As an applicant, take this info with grain of salt. By the time your a junior a new deformity hire may come thru. Likewise, to programs that are strong in one domain a big name attending may leave and volume can tank.. that is why we always emphasize FIT in these forums above all else. Programs are fluid in nature with natural end/flows. The caveat is if you see a mass exodus.. that’s a different story
