are aways this year going to be first come first serve? applications open April 15th until may 1. does that mean you submit on April 15 or is it like ERAS where institutions only get applications on may 1

Yes there is an aspect of first come first serve. Especially in terms of timing of your subi. For example they may like your application but already have July and August filled and offer you September.

Shouldn't it be different this year, given that there's only 1 valuable sub-i month this cycle? Anything other than an August sub-i is a waste, so there are only ~4-6 decent sub-i spots per program.. seems like they should be more picky about who they accept for those spots
