Average step 1 score in 2008 was 220 and in 2020 it was 232.

What does step 1 exam really mean? How well you can memorize basic science factoids that have very little to do with clinical medicine?

US medical education is standardized and therefore your performance during medical school (both in preclincal and clincal years) should really predict how well you are going to perform in residency. If there is a reliance on a standardized test to rank potential neurosurgeons then thats admitting there are flaws in the medical education system.

Not rank. More to screen down the applicant pool to a more manageable number.

Most of the high Step1 score people also tend to excel in other areas so theres a correlation between Step1 and match rate.

PDs are gonna use step2 from 2022-2023 match? Heard mixed ideas from various sources.... anyone knows the truth?

As a resident who will help review applications, my advice, take Step 2 CK as soon as you can to make a score available when ERAS applications are released, and do well on it. A number helps.
