Overcoming low step 1, is it possible?
#1
MD/PhD student who received a poor step 1 score (~ 200s) but published two high impact first author papers (IF: 32, IF:20) and ~30 second or middle author papers. Received small research grants. Invested some time into neurosurgery research in MS1 and MS2 and published ~15 neurosurgery papers.

Applying 2022-2023. Worth to give a shot?

As an mdphd applying now, I don’t think if helps much at all and no one gives that much of a shit about your research and it’s not going to overcome a 205 or whatever. If you are at a top school then you have a slim chance but dual apply neurology; if you are from stateU don’t even bother.

From a top 10 school, and thesis is about neural circuit and neurotransmitter release. Will dual apply. I like the idea.

why did u score so low?

you better get a high step 2 score and solid lors and solid clinicans. otherwise, it just looks like you had a kind/generous mentor, which might very well be the case.

u better do good on step 2 or you will be fucked up real, real bad.

if family issues pop up, delay the test. or better yet, abandon your family. no excuses, please.
