Seems like the big 5 programs are: Mayo MN, BNI, MGH, Hopkins, USCF

Lol Hopkins and MGH shouldn’t even be top 20 unless this is a research talk

MGH is a joke amongst people who actual know the field Of neurosurgery, that is to say actual neurosurgeons, not wannabe Med students

Curious about the context of your comment, is this your opinion from first hand experience? Did you interview or rotate there? Have you interacted with alums of the program? Are you a practicing neurosurgeon, resident in another program, or a student?

As an oversimplification, MGH puts out surgeons of average skill into good jobs. The graduates aren’t great, but they’re not terrible. The only difference between MGH and other programs seems to be that they require a student to be “in the club” (boarding school, Ivy grad, etc) in addition to having good grades, research, and board scores. If you’re not in that club, say goodbye to that network’s opportunities. The door was shut before your first day of medical school for many people. These posts are all generally some expression of frustration with this and it’s being unlikely to change for the foreseeable future.

Inbred
Vast majority of attendings from MGH, not up to date with modern techniques As above poster mentioned, the name far exceeds their ability and experience Lots of scut and double scrubbing, even as seniors But hey, it’s MGH, and those who want to take part in that will do so Vast majority of MGH attendings trained* at MGH

The best predictor of being able to jump through hoops is a history of jumping through really difficult hoops.
