Lack of transparency
#1
Why is there such a lack of transparency in this process?  How hard would it be to require programs to post their total case volume, not to mention the split up between sub-type?  How about the graduating chief numbers?  Why can't they post their number of applicants last year?  How about number of interviews offered?  Average step score for each?

It is simply atrocious that so much of this is kept from us, almost purposefully.  They can misrepresent their program or even flat out lie and I am stuck in a 7-year contract, renewed annually, with minimal ability to make a lateral or upward move.

Like in most things, transparency requires accountability. What governing body is going to confirm and collect that information and how will quality control be performed. What cases will be excluded? Full residency acgme reviews are only conducted at very spaced intervals so it would have to be a NSG body of some kind. I think a lot of programs are probably open to it, and its a good goal to strive towards.

Agree with OP. This needs to happen now. We'll figure out the logistics, we already have so many layers of control, this is nothing. It will also reduce attrition. Applicants know what they're getting into from the get go.

Same way medical schools hide their average step scores, though that is more dependant on the student than case volume, autonomy for residents etc.

try as you may, this isn't going to change. just focus on what you can control, and everything will work out.
