Why not just use the term academic? "Gentlemen's program" comes off as archaic and gender exclusive to most people I talk to outside the field.

Not all "gentlemen's programs" are academic.  Some are more bro and athletic.  Others are party-boi.

What academic programs are bro and athletic? Asking for a friend

Do we have a consensus as a field over whether or not we are going to continue using sexist, exclusive language such as gentlemen's programs moving forward?

Any suggestions for a new term?

Don't listen to this. Social change starts with going against the grain. Together we can make residency a more welcoming environment.

Getting upset by the descriptive term "gentleman" isn't being socially active. It's just being annoying.

Yeah look as much as I want to circle jerk the "if you can't handle ____ you're not ready for residency" it's a bit much tbh

Right now there are a breed of physicians that exist (not just our specialty) that will always look at, and treat, another gender/race/person differently for no better reason than the way they appear to them. And that shit needs to change.

Let's be better than that
