Baylor vs. UT Houston

R25 grants are a good way to get into NIH funding while in residency. Although programs with R25 are typically more academic, many of the most academic porgrams (UCSF, Michigan, etc) do not have R25s

Thanks.
Not sure about the case loads. Based on data we have seen during the interview, UTH control the highes share of the neurosurgery market at TMC.

If I recall correctly, UTH control arnd 40% of the market at tmc. I think it was followed by Methodist with like 20% then St. Luke (Baylor).

That most likely underestimates Baylor’s volume, St Luke is just one of their five hospitals.

Baylor and UTH presented conflicting case volume data at respective interviews (wrt who is number 1). In either case, both have solid operative volume and the difference is not enough to be a deciding factor.

Baylor historically dominated but bad decisions by medical school leadership devastated most training programs. Still the neurosurgery training at Baylor is probably still a better choice than the other two in town. Luckily the bad decision makers at Baylor are either long since fired or dead (feigin).

How does UT Southwestern stack up against the Houston programs (specifically Baylor and UTH)?
