Step 3 Timing

Any reason to not take step 3 prior to starting residency? I thought about studying for it during 4th year to avoid the stress during intern year.

you have to have your programs sponsorship I believe. but if you can get that no

I did it and I am glad to have that out of the way. No issues at all. The only thing to check is to see if your program pays for it. Some (I would hope most) programs will pay for it, often as a reimbursement. As a courtesy, you should let them know so that you can get the money back without major issues. Otherwise, best getting it out of the way soon.
