He is a very talented surgeon. Most residents will grade an attending based on the complexity of cases he/she performs and the outcomes, but I think this is an incomplete picture.
For every crazy skull base case you will have many meningiomas, pituitary tumors and gliomas that require surgical proficiency. And that is where he shines. His cases are not crazy complex (Ivan is the one who does all the complex skull base). Rick is extremely fast and efficient, and knows when to stop. I was trained under him and his outcomes are superb.
