Attending here.  Academic neurosurgery is horrible. I could not be happier I left.

This shit is so depressing to read. Neurosurgery residents need better protection from the ACGME. On the very rare occasion that a resident is fired in other fields it's a huge deal and the program gets put under a huge microscope.

If the attrition rate is so high in this specialty then why are there no spots open?

Programs need more junior residents than senior residents to function - loss of a junior does not necessarily mean program will replace them.

aren't there usually like pre-residency fellows or "research" who end up sliding in
