Depends on your source of information. If the PDs told you this directly, then sure. If you heard it from another applicant, you're probably getting the run around.
Very few programs (- Columbia which is a rare exception) ever completely fill with home students.

NYU, since they have that pathway program they interview all of us but in reality one of those spots is already taken by a home student. On top of that there are non-pathway home students who want to match there, pretty much a foregone conclusion.
New York programs in general are locked down, highly incestuous.

NYU, since they have that pathway program they interview all of us but in reality one of those spots is already taken by a home student. On top of that there are non-pathway home students who want to match there, pretty much a foregone conclusion.
New York programs in general are locked down, highly incestuous.
How about Sinai?

Neither is locked down. Yeah the NYU 3-year MD track has 1 student who pre-matched but they're taking 3 this year so 2 spots are still open in the match. The vast majority of residents at NYU and Sinai did not go to school there. Columbia is a different story and is the only one that's truly incestuous.

So maybe they want to go to a program that is stronger than Sinai? All options are on the table.
Who cares about the NY programs. Do the UCSF students want to stay?
