Can someone please explain this? if you don't reply to the interview invite in <5 minutes and get waitlisted are you still guaranteed an interview, possibly at a time you wouldn't have preferred? or can you lose the interview

You've essentially lost the interview spot if no other spot opens up even at an unpreferred date.
