Interview Inv 2017
#41
Thank you. This week on reading this forum has made me question why I even bothered applying. Congrats to everyone with high step scores, this whole process seems to revolve around that stupid three digit number. Even if I go unmatched, I sincerely hope schools look at something other than your Step 1 when selecting residents, as we all truly know that is the worst metric to select a resident by (by easiest).

I feel the same way, except with research rather than step score. Three papers submitted. Two abstracts. Two posters. Nothing published. So basically as if I have zero research.

I have two invites, but I'm terrified that's all I will have.

I think it's possible some of these ARE just inviting their home/sub'is early. (Source: got an invite today from my home institution. OK it's not the strongest evidence, but you can't prove it's wrong either).

I question the usefulness also, except to maybe try to give us a sense of whether there's a red flag or something we didn't know about and if that means we should go apply to more. So in that sense it might be useful.

It's a marathon, not a sprint. We have very very little info at this point.

average nsg step 1 + moderate research. 1 invite from a non-home/non-subI. Not sure what goes into these early invites.

Step 2 CK 266

Don't stress too much, I'm sure you have interviews coming. Most come in October. Until Mid October, I believe that this forum is more of a disservice rather than an aid, unnecessarily stressing people out. Just my opinion.
100% agreed.

You guys are taking this forum way too serious. Just hang in there. This is just the beginning. As has been said before, it is a marathon. Programs will still get interviews cancelled and rescheduled. I doubt that those getting interviews applied to every program in this running list. For your health I suggest you stop looking at this forum. I think the first week of October will be more telling and will help everyone know where they stand. Remember that it is always between 200 or 300 of us applying, and each program interviews between 20-40. Not everyone can be the most competitive applicant and it is virtually impossible even if you are competitive to get interview invitations at every program they applied to. I have a friend who matched at top-tier program last year from my school who was one of the most competitive applicants I've seen and even he only got interviews to just over 50% of all the programs he applied to. So don't make to much of what you've seen this early. Although programs may have screening, I seriously doubt that step scores is all every program uses to select their interviewees. Look at charting outcomes for the last several years match applicants have formed a bell curve in step score and while favoring higher score it does not even make a skewed distribution.
