Interview Invites 2017 - 2018
(12-05-2017, 10:06 PM)Guest Wrote: Why does everyone have to brag about how many interviews they have/have been on?  Please be humble.  Remember how much Step 1 factors into how many interviews you get (likely the only factor), and correlate that with how random that test is with the large fluctuation in scores possible.  You fortunately got the higher end of that fluctuation, but there are less fortunate who did not.

It's not logical to blame the exam for your poor score. Unfortunately, this lack of introspection and honesty about your shortcomings is likely why you weren't able to score well. You can't continue life successfully blaming external circumstances instead of yourself

Does anyone know how many residents LSU-Shreveport is taking this coming year? On the SNS spreadsheet it says 3, but it is somewhat unclear from looking at their current pattern of taking residents. In addition, rumor has it that they are in a chairman search, and I'm curious whether anyone who had interviewed there has any idea what is going on with the program? I heard good things about it, just was curious whether anyone had answers. Thanks!

Need to cancel my Minnesota interview on short notice. Emailed the coordinator, but got an out of office auto-reply. Anyone know who I can alert to my decision short of emailing program director? Thanks!

This shouldn't come as a surprise, but if there are any 3rd years following this thread with a Step 1 in the low 230s or worse, please, I implore you to save yourself the hassle and hurt this process will cause you, and look at another field.  There is literally nothing you can do to mitigate your score, and you will be screened out continuously.  Taking a year off and putting out 5-10 Neurosurgery publications will not make up for it.  A PhD with lots of primary author basic neuroscience papers in respectable journals may, but that is not really feasible for someone coming in MD only.  You really can't underestimate how much 5-10 questions on that test can really have a profound impact on this cycle and your future career.  Thank you, and best of luck to everyone.

Hey, I'm an M4 and I just matched (first try) with a sub-230's step 1 and sub-220's step 2.  I assure you, there are things that mitigate step scores.  Don't give up hope, you can do it!!!!

What "things" did you do to mitigate those scores?
