Will I need to take a year off?
#1
Hey everyone. I'm an MS3 at a general SE medical school. I didn't get junior AOA, but didn't hit a 265 on Step 1 and have about 4 1st author publications and working on about 3 more for publication. Im wondering if the fact that i got 4 preclinical B's (And 3 A's) in my graded second year is going to hold me back from matching? I've go to all honors this year so far. Thanks!

I think you are OK. If pubs are clinical / case series you are in top 25 range. If they are true research reports you could be in top 15 range. If you take a year off, make sure you choose a mentor very carefully. Needs to be someone with a track record of helping a student get a project done in a year.

Very niiice. ^Huh, a clinical retrospective study should not be grouped with case reports, much superior. Anyway you are golden, niiice Step 1. It will arouse many.

Yall are fuckin awesome. Been freaking out about it but unsure of how to ask. Thanks, the pubs all came by chance, i have the good fortune of going somewhere where residents don't do a whole lot of research. Leaves a lot of faculty clinical projects unfinished for medical students to scoop up, and bench work comes slowly but definitely paid off after all these years. Hope to see everyone on the trail!

Only an M2 here but good luck on the trail! Seems like you're in good shape, especially if you're amiable and can interview well.
