Not trolls. Actually trying to tell current applicants the truth. A 230 isn’t competitive for neurosurg/ortho/ENT/uro. Everyone knows this but for whatever reason a lot of neurosurgery applicants are in denial.

You sure you know what you are talking about? The most recent “charting outcomes” shows that applicants with <231 had a 67% of matching. 23/34 matched. Pretty good odds honestly.

1. 67% is significantly less than the national average of 80-90%, i wouldn't be encouraged by that number

2. Those are likely outliers. MD/PhDs with 20 publications, someone with great connections, or a rhodes scholar and NFL player

In my opinion that in no way means a normal applicant with a couple pubs/poster/presentations and <230 has a 67% chance

23 Rhodes scholars and 11 dumbasses who should have known better, got it.

I suppose neurosurgery attracts a type of personality that feel threatened by the idea that “average” medical students could match into neurosurgery

Can we get back to just talking about interview invites?

Relax dude

All i'm saying is people with <230 step 1 that end up matching make up for that weakness in other areas (research, LoR, extracurriculars)

You're this far in, just hang in there. Numbers may not be in your favor, but at the end of the day, you only need 1.
There has been someone with <230 who has matched, and someone with >270 who hasn't. You never know, it might be you.
I wasn't getting any interviews with a competitive score, and one day they poured in!

In my opinion, programs are actually looking for the "average" medical students over the one who thinks they're undefeatable.
Lol, it’s common knowledge that the Rhodes scholar-“NFL practice squad player” only got a 210 on Step 1, so there is still hope everyone...if you are Rhodes Scholar
