It doesn’t. But most of us would like to end up at a program that has excellent research infrastructure in place for our research interests. Just so happens most of these are at excellent programs.

yeh except if your research isn't excellent, top programs don't really want you...

This isn’t something worth triggering people’s insecurity over. I swear my least favorite part of neurosurgery is the applicants. Smile

If they tell you it’s strong, it’s usually strong. Hopefully you worked a lot with the person who wrote you your letter.
