Eh I’m sure this varies from program to program. I’ve had some folks bring aspects of mine up in interviewers and others I’m sure never even read it or know what school I’m from lol

It's almost as though we aren't all just walking transcripts. It's almost as though having people like you for your personality, having interpersonal skills, and having interesting elements of your life are major factors.

I had to remediate my shelf for family medicine. That will be mentioned on my MSPE. If I honor all other clerkships and make AOA, will that overcome my setback with FM?

I wouldn’t want to have a remediation on my MSPE but if you’re not getting enough interviews to match, that’s very unlikely to be the only reason.

unfortunately my school discloses any remediation on MSPE letters. I have so far honored all my years 1 and 2 courses, honored all clerkships except family medicine. I am not sure what do next. how can I overcome this blip on my application...?

Same advice everyone gets.

Crush Step 1
Get AOA
Do extensive research, basic science and neurosurgery-related preferred
Spread out your away rotations geographically
Crush them and get excellent letters from the chair/PD
Apply broadly, interview broadly, rank realistically

Easier said than done, but if you do it right, no neurosurgeon in the world is going to give a shit about remediating the family medicine shelf, of all things. Relax.
