It’s difficult to assess without Sub-Is and letters who would be interested in coming to our program. My advice is this, every program wants to match people who want to be there. It’s an odd year and it calls for a different approach perhaps. Feel free to email or call programs, if you are truly interested, express that and why. In a time where we can’t meet face to face, it would mean a lot.

I've heard it's a bit of a faux-pas to do this in the past. Would program directors be more understanding given the circumstances of COVID this year? Thanks for giving us some insight, really appreciate it.
Yes, thanks so much for advice. Can you comment on how programs are releasing interviews this year? All at once and then as cancellations occur or are you still reviewing applications and sending out rolling invites? Thank you, appreciate it a lot.
Sure. I can only speak for my program but we are sending them in batches. We expect some cancellations. It’s a moving target this year because we are also aware that some candidates may hold onto many interviews even though they may not need to.

For us, we love to hear why you want to interview and match here. It would mean a lot to us to hear sincerely why you are interested in us. Your outreach can help us put your applications into perspective.

What institution??

Better to email the coordinator or PD in this case? I've emailed 2 coordinators as I couldn't find the PD's email and I got the vibe they get a ton of these and just passed it off as "yeah whatever, here's a very neutral, political response, kbye"

Resident here. Don't email the coordinators they don't make any actual decisions, they're secretaries. Email the PD and/or Assistant PD. In the past it may have been a faux-pas but personally i think it would be helpful this year. As long as you're not blasting out copy-paste chain mail and have a legitimate reason for wanting to interview at a program.

If we haven't heard back from any programs, can we expect any invites later on? Or have most programs already selected the people they want to interview and no interviews at this point means none down the road/won't match? Just trying to manage expectations. Also it would be great to know what percentage/how many of us don't have interviews yet. Is it 10-20% or 50%? Can anyone comment?

On the document with the IIs so far there is a tab with the # of interviews each applicant has so if people have 0 you should fill out!

72 programs already sent out II. A lot of the programs have not, are top programs. A lot of dates are overlapped as well. I expect as top programs send out II, people will start canceling the "lower" ones. Though programs also over-invite per spot...so who knows if there will be more offers or not.
