Hi! Sarah here. Haven’t posted anything until right now, just wanted to say you have demonstrated your true colors here and I hope you realize you’re not above anyone on the healthcare team. I was simply on the panel to provide perspective as a new learner, and what my experience was like. Didn’t even participate in ranking.

I cannot imagine how fucking dumb someone has to be to publicly call out a specific interviewer at an unnamed program, and then proceed to name that program and continue berating them. Jesus christ bro, we have narrowed you down to a pool of 10-15 applicants max, and I promise you it is not going to take a fucking neurosurgeon to figure out who you are among them

Actually, it’s narrowed to *five* applicants

Resident here. This is a damn shame that the poster is resorting to placing personal info here, and now that entire interview cohort is going to be more scrutinized/possibly not ranked completely so they can avoid the offender altogether.

Mid levels are basically permanent residents, and cut down on scut immensely. So having a mid level on the panel let’s you the applicant ask questions regarding the workflow b/w them and the residents. At my institution, help us out on the floor and report/sign out to us... basic/routine medical management  isnt rocket science and they are basically executing the plan we/the attendings finalize in the AM.. and basic things that come up they can handle on their own (UTI w/u, replete lytes, etc). For the newer PAs/NPs, we teach them how to not kill patients and eventually they get very good/reliable at their role, and they are also taught to escalate care to us appropriately. They make our clinics run smoothly so we can have more OR time. I know at some instructions they even help with call as well, with some PAs having done 1000+ EVDs In their career and are very good at them.

I would hope that the entire interview cohort isn't thrown out of consideration because of the actions of one individual. If I were Bernard Bendok, I would cold call every applicant from that day, and just ask if it was them. It's not going to be hard to find out. Agree with all of the above btw. Anyone who looks down on midlevels has no idea how shit actually gets done out in the community.

And guess what, other chairs are going to reach out to bendock for sure... and this is how you get blacklisted, I just hope the actual culprit is narrowed down and the other applicants in that cohort don't take the hit. Tbh form a program perspective our biggest fear is matching someone who has poor interpersonal skills, poor judgement or has a "god complex' attitude which is very dangerous for patients. These concerns are heightened 1000 fold thanks to covid and lack of aways..

If it can't be narrowed we would elect not to interview/rank any from that cohort.. it's not fair but we're covering our own asses too over here. This is clearly a person who has absolutely no foresight and clearly not thinking about their colleagues or the ramifications of their actions.. let this kind of person start cutting and you have dr. death 2.0

Damn this thread got spicy since the last time I saw it. I too can't believe someone would complain about a PA being present on an interview panel, much less call them out by name and program. Hope you get what's coming to you. No room for people who disrespect the broader group of healthcare workers based on position alone

I, for one, welcome our new mid-level overlords. Maybe one day I can be first assist for them
