He'd put all of you to shame. Maybe you can read the book and learn.
Make fun all you want, he's going to make more off this book than you will your entire career. Good on him for capitalizing.
Lol he paid for the Amazon reviews. Authors get like 3 dollars a book and this boastful fool sold maybe like 10 real copies. At least he fits in well at mgh
He is very boastful, everything is a photo-op for him and his brother (who does all his PR). His family is also wealthy and politically connected in the Bahamas so it’s not the zero-to-hero narrative that he tries to sell. He comes from money/power. I think most people see through the antics. There are also stories of questionable behavior
Really? He makes it sound like his was a rags to riches story. I was under the impression that he came from a very poor family? He also said that he faced a lot of racism and discrimination, and that is had to overcome it all. Is this true?
some #metoo types of stories are out there too, unfortunately

Wikipedia suggests otherwise. Who knows, maybe he should speak on it.

This is the guy who got a 196 on step 1. Barely passed. 2%.
Did he really get a 196? I wonder how he matched into MGH? Surly it was due to his superior academic credentials?

STFU with this crap. I remember this guy interviewed at our institution and had a good step score. Step is a measure of competency, once an applicant crosses a threshold, it doesn't matter. Y'all need to remember that certain accolades (Rhoades, nfl, etc.) and personal life story trump your bs papers

Guess you weren’t a Rhodes scholar based on the way you spell it…

He had an objectively bad step score, it was the talk of that cycle. He's in the position that he is in because he is a minority, Rhodes scholar, and former NFL player. This was a slam-dunk for MGH to brand themselves, not because he was necessarily qualified. Ever wonder why nobody else who matched at that program went to a state medical school?
Nonetheless, it looks like he's made the best of the opportunity and will hopefully be doing some good for neurosurgery as a whole. It is in our best interest to hope he succeeds as he brings the whole field up with him (the same way Dr. Death brought the whole field down).
Most likely, he will be doing PP elective spine for pain, and will be raking in even more money from motivational speeches where he claims to have battled against racism and discrimination all his life, and is now doing cutting-edge surgery to cure paralyzed people. People won't know the difference.
Also, he makes money by serving on the board of directors for a med device corporation, which is in violation of ethical and resident rules, but no one can say anything.

Play the hand your dealt. Griping about someone else's, be it a bluff or a royal flush, is counterproductive to your own success. No one's ever asked me to be on a board of directors despite my interest.
I'm also unaware of an absolute rule against being on a board as a resident or otherwise. Some institutions may prohibit it perhaps. My medical school was very anti conflict of interest. Harvard may be the same. At my current institution you just have to disclose it typically. I've been involved with founding companies and licensing patents, never been an issue as long as you are above board about it.
