these rankings are a poor metric, it's a popularity contest by attendings

The doximity ranking methodology is hilariously flawed and essentially comes down to how many alumni programs can manage to get to submit a vote. It also lags behind by at least 5-10 years - wont name names but some top tens on there are dying programs and some in the 20s to 30s are more like top 15 or even 10. For anyone applying i would really stress just thinking for yourself and trying to find a program that aligns with your goals.

In order to help those coming after us to make educated choice, you have to call out these dying programs as well as highlight some rising programs which might otherwise go unnoticed by some medical students. I ll go frist Still Solid- UW, UMiami, Pitt, Barrow, NYU Rising (Solid programs that are only getting better) - Carolinas, MCG, Methodist , UTenesse

The only undisputed programs are ucsf, bni, mayo. That being said, you will also get strong training anywhere else and several aforementioned programs are really making names for themselves - Carolinas comes to mind. Either way, you gotta think for yourself and choose a program that aligns with your values but most importantly turns you into a safe surgeon.

None of those 3 are undisputed, but they are good programs. There are a lot of programs that are in a strange spot, like how is UVA that low? This should be more of a set of bins rather than Rank 1- 200. At this point in your career, you need to match somewhere that’s a good fit for you. If you match at a top research program but hate the bullshit you have to do to publish, it’s going to be a painful 7 years. If you match at a program with 7 residents but want to get a K award, your call burden will keep that from happening. If you want to operate independently by the time you graduate but the culture has residents doing first-assist work only, you will be unfulfilled. Don’t let Doximity tell you what’s good for you.

I agree there's some value to adding to this list on here for prospective applicants. I'll add a few points from both personal experience and reputation. For context i'm a senior resident who's starting the job search, and i've omitted my program from this comment to limit bias. Mayo Jax, Mayo AZ, and Tufts being as high as they are is the most inaccurate part of this list. You could argue top 75 for each of them. Given how the rankings are done i'm assuming the Mayos are that high because every institution voted for each other, not sure how Tufts did it. None of them are bad programs, but there are more deserving programs below each of them. Underrated programs: UVA, UCSD, Jeff, OHSU, Carolinas, U Maryland, UT Houston, USF Overrated programs: Michigan, Tenn, Rush, Penn St, Rochester, Geisinger

doximity is trash. lots of click bait and overwhelming ads. do not use

Also just a thought from my interview trail - bwh and penn are heavily underrated and on amazing trajectories. The doximity rankings being based on historical reputation and alumni voting just doesnt allow for up-to-date representations of where are programs are headed
