Heard they are a disaster. 2 residents quit this year, down to 3 faculty at main hospital and still on probation. Have a new chair so hopefully he can turn things around if they don’t get shut down.

Anyone interview at Rutgers? Is this true? Is it worth ranking them?

Just looked, Rutger program is still on probation with AcGME. Loma Linda no longer on probation, they have full accreditation. Would think Rutgers, the only program in the USA with probation, must have bad issues. I would think they are in the bottom 10 programs.

Any body interview there? Is program OK or as bad as it sounds?

What happens to residents of program on probation? What if it closes?

If it closes, your funding through PGY7 travels with you and the ACGME helps you attach yourself to another program who is willing to take you. Many programs are happy for free labor. A resident went from Loma Linda closure to BWH in the past. It's a win in some senses, not your fault it closed.

So if I am good but not great candidate should I aim for program on probation hoping it will close?

If you want to be a neurosurgeon, you’d rather be in a program than not, regardless of anything. If you assess yourself to be on the borderline, why not, apply to Rutgers. Rutgers may or may not close. Programs can improve and get off probation.
Every resident at Rutgers who will graduate will be a neurosurgeon, they won’t look back.

Will they have tarnished name if graduate from program that no longer exists? Know anyone from SUNY Downstate or Hahneman programs who can talk?
