at my program our pgy6 worked all throughout her pregnancy until she literally went into labor. granted we had her cover cases where she could sit or quick and easy discs/decompressive lamis, but she still showed up and took care of a bunch of bs.
Easier as a pgy6, and like you said she took the easier cases. In our case she was a pgy3 so it took a lot of extra effort from her co-residents to fill the void while she was out

Contact the program's alumni (residents and students) where you would like to get in. They will provide a more accurate representation of the department's culture. I did it, and that saved me from programs that promised heaven but were actually hell.
