Step 2 CK for Interviews
#1
Hey everyone,

I am still confused about how Step 2 CK is used in the application process. My PD seems to think that ~15-20 programs require a score to send you an interview (ie. there is an algorithm in place that will screen out applications that lack a score). However, it seems like many on these forums, if not most, are getting lots of interviews without having a score available.

That said, would people mind listing the schools they've received interviews from without having a Step 2 CK score in their application? I'll start by listing a few schools I'm interested in following the order of the list on the Interview Invites thread.

Indiana
University of Florida
Houston Methodist
University of Virginia
Baylor
Tulane
UAB
Duke
Arkansas
LSU New Orleans
Kentucky
LSU Shreveport
Oklahoma
Wake Forest
UNC
University of Miami
University of Mississippi
Carolinas Med Center
WashU
Vanderbilt
UT Southwestern
University of South Florida
Mayo Clinic Jacksonville

Thanks everyone!

So is your list some ines that don’t or do require them?

This could be helpful for next year. I know I’d have liked this

Sorry, I should have specified. I'm an MS3 so I'm trying to figure out if I truly need to take Step 2 CK before the application goes in. The schools I listed are ones I am interested in applying to so I would like know whether people have gotten interviews from them without Step 2. But people can certainly comment on any other school that has sent out interviews.

Places I got interviews without taking step 2, and a step 1 <245.
Good luck, you definitely don’t need it 90% of places.

Awesome, thanks so much! It's nice to have some transparency in this confusing process.

Remember that this only gives you an N=1. While programs may have cutoffs on Step 1, they certainly seem to be looking at other things as well. So just getting the reassurance of 1 instance does not give you at all an entire picture. If at all it just tells you that it is possible, but says nothing on likelihoods.
I scored >240 on Step 1 and >265 on Step 2CK, also have ok research experience and was not invited to WashU and U Wash and was harshly rejected from Utah. Most programs in the list above I did not apply to, others I did and got invited to. Granted, I do have other really good interviews, but just take info presented here with a large grain of salt as this process is clearly multifactorial and unfortunately not transparent enough to make truly accurate assumptions.
