Interview Invites 2017 - 2018
Hey guys, just want to encourage everyone to keep this classy and professional. There's nothing formal about this forum, but lets not turn it into trolling page where individuals vent their frustration about residency applications. Its a tough field out there, but we are all colleagues. Looking forward to meeting everyone on the trail!

Man, it's so much different on the ortho and ENT forums.  They joke around and support each other.  Nsg applicants are the exact opposite w/ so much animosity, it's a shame what type of people are attracted to this field.

FWIW, I have a sub-240 step I and nothing else particularly spectacular going on for me to make up for it and have received over 20 interview invitations. I can only assume that my letters were good, since I chose tough away rotations and worked my ass off during them. But seriously, this conversation should not be on this thread.

Same here. Mid 230s, no neuroscience related research, low tier med school, worked hard on 3 away rotations. 25 interviews and counting with 3 top tiers.

yeh let's all be supportive. it's ridiculous that there's so much animosity between anonymous bloggers. how the heck do you plan on being neurosurgeons with this attitude

Quick question. Does anyone know why the following programs have either ACGME accreditation warning or are on probation:
- MGH: on warning
- MC of Wisconsin: on probation
- U of Chicago: on warning
- Cincinnati: on warning
- UT San Antonio: on warning

Public data available through acgme website: https://apps.acgme.org/ads/Public/Report...tion=false

Sorry, I know it’s not an interview invite post, but I think still relevant as we are should be informed about programs as we go about interviewing and making ranking decisions this cycle.

Did a sub-I at MGH, chairman/PD openly discussed and explained the situation. MGH has been showing caseloads for their PGY7s that didn't justify 3 residents per year. This was due to the fact that they traditionally graduated their residents early so that they would be the attendings on record for cases on the North service, and as attendings they were ineligible to log cases thru ACGME. It's more of an accounting fluke than anything else. They have restructured PGY7 and expect to get back to 3 per year and backfill spots.

I wasn't aware that MGH was on accreditation with warning. Also, I met an applicant in the trail that told me that there were no concerns for Cincinnati, however, according to this post they have accreditation with warning. Anyone care to elucidate why? Should we have any worries/concerns about these programs?

That makes sense. Thanks for your input. I figured MGH would figure it out.
Anyone have any info on the others?

Cincinnati is on warning because they lost all but a handful of their attendings to a private group. I think it's the Mayfield group. The group will still take residents, but won't be operating at the hospital that houses the residency program from what I understand. Also heard a lot of residents are leaving. It's a shame, especially given that it used to be such a strong program.
