For some reason I thought they were always 2 a year

They've been 3/yr but volume has been tanking...

Anyone know if due to saturation in spine?

Woah, when did this happen? Will they even be able to take any residents this year, if they are only approved for a total of 14?

During the interview they said they were taking 3, and this was after their most recent accreditation date (1/6/17)... I'm confused

With all these spine practices around the greater Boston area, there can't be enough patients to go around. This may be true in many other areas as well. But can't find any solid stats So wonder if the MGH downgrade, if due to spine volume, is an indication of too many NSGs, not to mention Orthos,  going into Spine.

I doubt it's related to spine. It most likely has to do with their low pediatric volume and the highly saturated Boston market.

If there aren't enough spine cases to go around, then we are all doomed. Spine, specifically degenerative spine, is the vast majority of neurosurgery (and also the most lucrative part). Way more herniated discs than aneurysms or skull base tumors.

So are they going to match 2 or 3 this year? If they can match anyone at all...
