Trying to shadow more and make some contacts with residents and attendings. Other than crushing step 1, what else do I need to do and what should I focus on? Am I at a disadvantage for having spent my summer doing something outside of the neurosurgery department, even though it is neuro related?

I think they're probably a Harvard student

Do HMS students do Sub-I's at BWH or MGH? Both?

Both. So they typically only do 1-2 aways

Must be nice. Still can't even comprehend how one gets into HMS in the first place

you seem like a foreign med student, in which case, it will depend on your goals. If you're looking just to learn about neurosurgery, this and MGH are probably perfect since they don't require much from their visiting subIs. If your objective is to improve your chances at receiving interviews or matching somewhere, I'd suggest you rotate elsewhere.

my bad, your syntax was of someone whose first language wasn't English. as for a subI experience, my friend rotated there a couple years back. he said they're very friendly, they let him do some stitching in the OR and were very inclusive. sorry I can't help with much else.

Big name program with big name faculty and great research opportunities so you'll get whatever fellowship you want because you'll have pubs and letters. Not the best resident culture (some would say malignant) and the operative experience is average.

The good news is you'll get to do any fellowship you want.  The bad news is you'll need a fellowship to be trained, because in residency you are at best first assistant, and more commonly double or triple scrubbed

How does the skull base/pituitary fellowship here work? Are there two separate fellowships, one with al-Mefty and the other with Dunn? Does Laws still operate? What kind of jobs to the fellows end up getting?
