Is UVA a gentlemen's program?

Just look at Vanderbilt. They matched 3 females last year, and are good at portraying themselves as if having a great culture but not too long ago they have given many of their past female residents a hard time and they let one of their best applicants this year fall through the cracks just for being a female with a kid. I wouldn’t be surprised if the program goes on probation.

Also, applicants talk in the trail about their SubIs and home programs and lets just say that comments weren't that great about UVA in the trail this year.

You do realize how absurd this sounds right? They filled ALL of their spots with female applicants last year (what other program has done that, ever?), but because they didn't take a specific female this year (probably you or your friend) they must be anti-women and will probably go on probation? How could you possibly know what their reasoning was? The stream of unfounded allegations on this forums is ridiculous.

Seconded. Vanderbilt is a stellar program both for the quality of surgeons they produce, and their cognizance of the strengths of female applicants.

As a female, I got a terrible vibe interviewing there. I didn't even rank them in my top 20. Hope this insight helps.

Did they really fire two of their PGY3 residents?

Calling them anti-women is extreme, but at a minimum, the program should have anticipated that something was amiss with one of their applicants for them to outright not match. This is expounded by the fact that they matched two other applicants (who didn't even do sub-Is there -- per the Google Doc) over their best home applicant.

FYI, Hopkins filled all four of their spots with women the same time that Vanderbilt did.

What's the deal with the Vandy applicant? Didn't even hear about her on the trail. Surely if she was that great of an applicant she would've matched elsewhere unless Thompson wrote her a dirty letter
