UVA vs Rush Away Rotation
#1
Hello, I was offered an away rotation for one month at both UVA and Rush. Not sure which one to go with. I know UVA is a great program, but I can't really see myself wanting to live in Virginia and therefore probably wouldn't want to match there. Only the other hand I really like Chicago but don't know much about the Rush neurosurgery program and their website does not have a ton of information regarding their program.

Anyone rotated at Rush or UVA that can share their experience/knowledge? Any insight/comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

Thanks

Two is fine unless they're at places that are stringent about spots.

Which are some places that are known to be stringent?

It seems like you'd be happier with Rush. Rush is a great program. A letter from Byrne or Traynelis would help you considerably. I know recent residency and fellowship grads from Rush who couldn't be happier with their training. It isn't the research powerhouse that UVA is but still has the clinical research output that you'd need to build your CV.

The recent UVA grads that I know are happy with their training but did say its a difficult environment to learn the ropes.

Sounds like you'd enjoy Rush. Additionally, it will open up the upper Midwest and Chicago area which is rich with neurosurgery programs.
