Agree with Pitt. For BNI, training will situate you well for any private jobs, however may prevent high level academic consideration.

Looking at their graduates over the past 10 years, it is difficult to defend this

Pitt residents get a lot of interest but to be clear the vast majority are going to jobs looking for at most surgeon scientists, not scientist surgeons. Academic focused places like MGH and others that rack up the PhDs tend to fill those positions more frequently.

How about places like UCSF, UCLA, Stanford, Mayo, BNI, WashU?

Not quite sure how to interpret or answer this. I can tell u that once u become a senior resident, recruiters will be literally banging on ur door with job opportunities no matter what program you are from. This includes opportunities at private practices, hospital and hospital-system employment, and also academic centers. This applies even more so to certain fellowship-trained specialties, notably spine and endovascular, although I have encountered a growing number of positions seeking candidates who are fellowship trained in functional (and willing to pay quite well for them).

If the question is oriented strictly at jobs at name-brand academic centers willing to support a lab, then honestly I have no idea if particular places are better represented. I can tell u that often u will see a pattern at major centers, meaning that one faculty member from “X” residency program will join a center, and will often be followed by fellow graduates from where they trained. It’s a small community after all, and word of mouth carries decent weight within it.

Just look up the last 10 years of each's graduates and you can find the answer. Most programs have a list on their webpage somewhere.
