Best Functional Epilepsy surgeons/hospitals?
#1
Is there a consensus on who are the best functional surgeons for epilepsy? I've seen that Philip Starr at UCSF is very well established, but he seems to focus on movement disorders.

OP here - do people still agree that Gross and Boulis (and Emory in general) are among the best for functional/epilepsy?

It looks like Zachary Abecassis is just a resident?

UCSF most epilepsy surgery is done by Chang. Emory also has an excellent epilepsy center.

For epilepsy some of the most prominent people are Mark Lee at WVU, Penn has Lucas/Baltuch/Yoshor, Abosch at Nebraska, Howard at Iowa, Leuthardt at WashU.

For epilepsy, how much better is UCSF than Emory or Penn?

Eddie Chang gives UCSF a solid advantage over the latter two especially in the research domain. Lucas at Penn has a very robust clinical and research epilepsy/mapping practice and he trained at UW and UCSF. Operatively, they're probably all similar and as drstrange mentioned, Cleveland Clinic is also in the conversation as one of the best epilepsy fellowships/centers. UW historically had the strongest epilepsy center under Ojemann.

UCLA with Fried also comes to mind for a strong epilepsy/brain mapping mentor figure.
