Do interviews get snatched up on a first come first serve basis?

I know in other specialties this is the case, and if you're too slow to respond then you don't get an interview. Is this also the case for neurosurgery? Or is it if they invite you for an interview they tend to hold a spot for you until you let them know which day is good for you?

Some programs do this, others you may just have limited date options if you delay.

SNS recommends that interview invites be limited to the number of available spots. There is no way to know if everybody complies but it seems almost all of them do.
