Residents/Fellows as Chauffers
#1
How common is this across residencies?

An invited speaker comes in and a resident/fellow has to cart them around town?

Pretty standard, good way to get face time with a big name in the field.

I’ve done this. I wasn’t thrilled about it, although I did have a somewhat interesting conversation with a “big name” as these naive Med students love to say. Those who are saying it’s a big opportunity are delusional, the guest speaker won’t remember you by the end of the day.

I'm doing research with a "big name" attending. I was very surprised that he is only vaguely aware of the details of his own research, and that the fellow and PhD was doing basically everything. However, he is very good at talking.

Is this normal?
