^^True. Not uncommon in other programs where there is organized harassment. Residents and fellows who decide to stay may remain at high risk of subtle punishment.

I believe this is what happened to the gentleman who left UTSW for private consulting. He made a few twitter posts about it. Basically, if someone doesn't like you,  they just harass you (find fault with everything you do, don't support you, give you work designed to make you look bad etc. ).

Nowadays, many institutions are implementing teamwork where you are graded/evaluated by nurses, PA's, PT's, techs and the like, so the possibility such harassment is increased exponentially--especially as such types have grudges against doctors to begin with. Of course, they always use the excuse "patient safety" for anything.

Most top students nowadays go into law and business for this reason, preferring to avoid such bullying.

There is probably more bullying in law than medicine. Especially in BigLaw at top firms

There’s bullying everywhere but it shouldn’t be tolerated in healthcare because it is intrinsically linked to patient care.

If that's your angle then operating at hour 30 of a 36 hour shift isn't very good for patient care either...
