Anyone know of any upcoming open PGY-2 positions?

Why? Just do something else. No luck of getting in

Already in, operative experience at current program is different than what was promised. Looking for a different opportunity.

You listened to ‘what was promised’ during interview and didn’t do any research or corroboration on your own? You deserve what you got. Be glad you matched into NS. Plenty of people will be thrilled to have your spot.

How can you research malignancy or operative independence? Can you really do a second look at any program on your rank list?

^Talking to senior/former residents is the best/easiest way. Most are willing to share what their experience was like, especially if it was at a bad program

Things change at programs constantly. A prior resident’s experience is not guaranteed to be yours. From year to year training sites change, leadership changes, and unique events like the pandemic can greatly alter one resident’s experience to the next. Regardless of doing the research and talking to former/current residents, there is nothing that can’t, and likely will, change over 7 years. If OP is unhappy based on changes, that is not a unique experience and they should be encouraged to evaluate other options.

How can a resident who left a program get back in? I've seen fired/resigned residents do it, what does it take?
