Not everyone aspires to be the “GOAT” of neurosurgery, even if that is such a thing. Reality is, this country depends on ample supply of solid trained general neurosurgeons (including those in non-academic settings) to provide care for the patient population. People on this forum obsessing with “tier” are just narcissists obsessed with prestige, recognition, etc. Furthermore, people with the biggest academic names aren’t always the best surgeons. If I’m the patient, I dont care how much NIH funding you have, I care about clinical outcomes. Lets not forget that it takes 15+ years of patience, hard work, and continual academic achievement to even graduate as a neurosurgeon.

There is a serious problem in neurosurgery where there’s chief residents at T20 programs retracting for their attending during ACDF or sitting out entire microsurgical portion of a tumor resection. Meanwhile, there’s residents at “middle and low tier” institutions doing these procedures as lead surgeon well before the chief year.
Doximity rankings are overutilized IMO and not always reflective of training experience

“ His neurosurgical training was completed in 1978 at West Virginia University Medical Center. Following his residency, he was in private practice for four years in Richmond, Virginia. He then moved to Saudi Arabia where he was a staff neurosurgeon and Acting Chairman of the Neurosciences Department of the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh. He returned to the United States and academic neurosurgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center where he advanced to Professor of Neurosurgery, and following that at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. He was the Chairman of Neurosurgery at the University of Arkansas from 1993- 2009”

Doesn’t sound like running straight to Harvard to me, dumbass. And both his sons went to Arkansas med school, they never touched Harvard

Pretty sure this website is now just the same 5-10 people, likely premeds or early med students, arguing with each other over things that do not concern them and likely never will… and then for 2 months people say when interviews go out

Both his sons went to BNI and then Harvard for skull base fellowship. Sounds pretty elite to me.

To people saying discrimination is good. As someone who was not renewed due to discrimination and hasn’t been able to find a position since- it is not good. It is life altering and truly destroys every part of you.
