Has any one encountered an incident when a resident had an accident as he or she fell asleep behind the wheels while driving between hospitals ? Does ACGME look into it ?

Thats the residents failure to use their professional judgement not to use uber/lyft, ask for a taxi or ride from a colleague.

In my opinion, the ACGME should look into working conditions like the distance and frequency of travel between hospitals in addition to working hours. In most programs the hospitals are located within few miles but travelling 25 or 30 miles between hospitals to see patients should not be allowed. Staying a hour or two extra after your work hours should not raise a redflag, where as required travelling on the same day or on alternate days should . When hospitals are located far apart, and residents alternate between them, they obviously have to drive from their apartment which is usually closer to their primary training place.
