Suppose MGH does important research, which is a reach at best. How useful is that in a declining profession? They have done nothing to preserve the importance of neurosurgery in society, hold back the influence of insurance overlords, or really much else besides make themselves seem like a good hospital. If anything, they hurt medicine such as with fucking up running two rooms at the same time.
More damage than MGH not doing anything in response to big policy changes or reimbursement cuts? I don’t think so. Overzealous surgeons are found everywhere, not just in PP.
Mayo provides a much better model for an effective organization. Mayo started refusing to take MA plans with their prior auth. crap and shitty reimbursement. A state tried to tell Mayo what to do about nurse staffing ratios. Its response was “go fuck yourself, take that part out of the law,” AND THE STATE FUCKING CAVED. MGH rolls its bitch ass over when cuts are made and asks for more.
