Tumor vs Skull Base
#1
Can someone help me understand really what the difference is for fellowship between tumor and skull base and what pros and cons someone ought to consider between them. Appreciate any insight.

There might be some overlap but a tumor fellowship will focus on treatment of intra-axial tumors, ie gliomas. Skills you would learn in this fellowship would include motor/speech mapping, awake surgery, etc. There may also be a stronger research component to these fellowships as many academic tumor surgeons run labs. Skull base fellowships mostly treat benign neoplasms of the skull base, eg meningiomas, schwannomas, and pituitaries, possibly with a focus on endoscopic endonasal procedures.
