Case Western vs. Ohio State
#1
I'm looking for a solid Sub-I in the midwest area. Can anybody comment on the relative strengths and weaknesses of these two programs?

I rotated at Ohio State. Absolutely loved it. Was in the OR everyday, very interesting and complex cases. The residents are a great group, too. I also felt the attendings were very invested in the residents training and there was a collegial environment there.

Go Ohio State. Program has a solid upward trajectory and Columbus is a more exciting city than Cleveland in my opinion. Consider Cleveland Clinic as well which is also a very strong program, although I'd say it's tougher to match there than OSU or CWRU.

Dude, think about this real hard. It's less than 10 degrees in both of those locations. Sure places like Case, Ohio State, Umich are decent...but do you really want to freeze???? Barrow, UCSD, Miami, UCLA, Emory, Baylor....so many places with good weather and good training.

OP here. I have some family ties to the Midwest, specifically Ohio which is why I mention these programs. It seems like OSU is a great place from what those other poster say.

By that measure, Mayo, MGH, Columbia, Cornell, Penn, Hopkins and any other program in the Northeast corridor is in cold environments. Should not be the most important thing you’re thinking about during this process.

I recommend Indiana University if you dont mind going a little outside ohio. Great group of residents and you will get to do a lot in the OR. All their subIs ive talked to really enjoyed it and would love to train there

I'm assuming your family is closer to Columbus since it looks like you favor OSU. Consider sub-is at Cleveland Clinic or Pitt if you want to lock down that region. Think about WVU, UVA, IU as well.

That's true, but you should consider it.  It was 2 degrees in Michigan yesterday.  Like -2 in Ohio.  It's been -10 with the wind in Rochester.  Not the only thing, but you need to consider 7 years of that.
