University of Miami has a great pre-residency position starting July 1st.  This fellowship allows significant time with each attending on faculty as well as significant time getting OR experience. This year's fellow is on track to log over 150 cases (none double-scrubbed) and has already published several papers.  He also matched into neurosurgery this year.

Please contact mivan@med.miami.edu or i.menendez@med.miami.edu for more details.

Boston University / Boston Medical Center pre-residency clinical fellowship spots, 2017

The Department of Neurosurgery at Boston University / Boston Medical Center is currently seeking candidates interested in pursuing a career in neurosurgery to fill several open pre-residency, post-graduate neurosurgery fellowship positions.

This is a 2(+)-year post-graduate pre-residency fellowship for those looking to gain clinical experience and/or bolster their resume prior to match. We are looking for applicants who have completed all USLME exams and are committed to neurosurgery. Prior to clinical neurosurgery is strongly preferred. As a fellow, you will gain hands-on clinical and operative experience and be exposed to multiple neurosurgical subspecialties, including complex spine, functional neurosurgery, cerebro-vascular, neuro-oncology, neuro-trauma, pediatrics. There are also plenty of options for clinical and laboratory research both within the department and throughout the greater Boston University community.

The attendings are very approachable and supportive and genuinely care about your professional development and ultimate career success. The program has good track record of previous fellows matching in residency positions.

Formal inquiries regarding the position may be directed to Dr. Justin Massengale, Assistant Professor; Department of Neurosurgery, Boston Medical Center, 725 Albany St., Suite 7C, Boston, MA 02118 (email: Justin.Massengale@bmc.org)

University of New Mexico.
1-2 spots for July 2017-June 2018.
Basically act as a PGY2 level.

This year (2017) and last year (2016), their pre-residency fellow matched at UNM Neurosurgery. In 2015, both pre-residency fellows matched into neurosurgery at another institution.

OHSU in Portland, OR has a pre-residency Neuro-Onc fellowship spot for this year. Not directly Neurosurg but you work closely with Neurosurg, can rotate on their service for letters, and get to do tons of endo cases (3-vessel angios 1:1 with attending) throughout the year. Check out the post in "Job Openings"

Long hours, no pay, one guy worked like 6 years before matching. Another was there for 4 years and no match. They recently started a NS residency and didn't even take one of the pre-residency fellows.
