How Many Applications?
#1
How many places does the average applicant apply to? My step 1 and research are a bit below average and trying to get an idea on how much to spend on application season.

Look at your preferences, budget, and Charting Outcomes online.  If you're a below average applicant in terms of scores, you need to apply widely to get the number of interviews you need to match.  Also - pick your SubIs wisely.

How should we go about picking sub-is? How far can connections get you in this process?

Start by not wasting your time at places like Hopkins Barrow and UCSF if you’re not competitive there.
