M3, research question, and realistic programs?
#1
Star
Just started M3

step 1 : 255
Grades :  top 10% of class
Research : (neurosurgery related) : 1 chart review, 1 case report,
(endovascular stuff, not specifically nsurg) 2 Abstracts, 1 poster, 1 first author pub

I go to a mid tier midwest state school

Aside from more good grades, LORs etc. do I need more nsurg specific research?

What programs are realistic for me to match at?

Currently - solid mid to upper mid-tier programs, assuming you do well on your Sub-Is.

+HHMI and productive year - first author publications - top programs

its a crapshoot so you'll most likely match but hard to say where/what kind of programs unless you have mad connections

Similar situation to OP but unranked med school w/o home department. I'm thinking about potential sub-I places and wondering how much this influences what tier I can aim to match at.

couple rotations into M3
step 1: 265+
step 2: scheduled for post-ERAS/pre-interviews
basic sciences: all A’s
clinical: honors so far, good interactions/feedback with patients & staff
research: 20+ neurosurgery pubs (15+ first author), 10+ presentations at nsg meetings, all research w/outside institutions
considering gap/research year but unsure
