Server load |

Hi guys
Hope you're all doing well, and congratulations again to all those who recently matched.
I was hoping for some feedback regarding your user experience, namely with page load times. We had a pretty significant increase in server load last Friday, peaking at 100 active users at one instance. Did anyone notice slowing or page load issues?
The server the site on is dedicated and has a high bandwidth connection with good peering. I personally did not notice any issues, but wanted to see how it performed for you guys.

Do residents/attending join and/or contribute to the ACS, or is it just for general surgeons.

Hopkins resident class size |

Just out of curiosity, why does the class size vary so much at Hopkins between each year? Currently they have 3 PGY7, 2 PGY6, 2 PGY5, 4 PGY4, 2 PGY3, 4 for PGY2, PGY1, and the match google spreadsheet has them matching 5 new PGY1s this year. It looks like they've been approved to have 4/year recently (https://apps.acgme.org/ads/Public/Progra...ramId=3015), but why so much variation?
Thanks

Thinking of skull base fellowship, esp endoscopy-heavy.
Are there any private practice opportunities for skull-base trained neurosurgeons? Or are the few cases out there being referred to academic centers alone?

How does UMDNJ continue to place people into top neurosurgery programs every year? They consistently seem to be punching way above their weight.

NS Match: The unfair game |

I have been watching match results for years since I matched. I can tell you that it's unfair game. When I was an applicant I used to hear that match process is fair and all that "fit" bullshit. Now I am in the selection process and know how things work. Let me tell you something: it's the worst unfair game. Examples that stand out in this match:
Bottom line: your main goal is to become a neurosurgeon. Everyone has preferences where they want to match, but don't forget the main goal.

When to take a year off to do research? |

When do you need to take a year off to do research? What should your research profile look like come ERAS time? Obviously an M3 going in with 0 prior research would benefit from taking a year off, but how about someone with a few NSGY-related publications under their belt? When does a year off for research start creating diminishing returns?
